When we think of Rome, we think of St. Peter’s Basilica and Michelangelo’s famous “Pietà” But did you know that there are over 900 churches in Rome? Consider the famous Santa Maria Maggiore with its gold coffered ceiling or the Little Santa Cecilia in Trastevere, where with the nun’s permission, you can descend into the ruins of a Roman home. You may select San Pietro in Vincoli, in which Michelangelo’s “Moses” is only one of its treasures. Perhaps you would like to study Santa Maria Degli Angeli, built within the ruins of the baths of Diocletian with its mysterious bronze longitudinal meridian, a kind of sundial set into the
floor and illumined by a ray from a tiny aperture in the church’s wall.
There are many to choose and explore together.
