Istanbul (Constantinople) was founded by the Greeks and was originally called Byzantium. It has been one of the World's largest cities since ancient times and is the only city on two continents: Europe and Asia. The events and buildings of this city reflect the centuries under Greek, Roman, Ottoman, and other rulers. For this course, we will be travel guides exploring the history, importance, and role of this metropolitan city in the past and in our current world as we explore historic and modern sites.
